Galaxy Advert CSP

1) The advert is short in length (about a minute long), it features a song and it has multiple camera shots/angles.

2) The slogan "Why have cotton when you can have silk?" implies that ordinary, every day chocolate is the cotton (dull/cheap), while Galaxy chocolate is the silk (rich/luxurious).

3) Audrey Hepburn was a famous actor in Hollywood in the 50's/60's. They most likely selected her to bring out the old, nostalgic theme.

4) When one media text references another.

5) It was most likely referencing an old film she starred in called "Roman Holiday". It features her in Italy on her own with a reporter. The costume she's wearing is a white dress which resembles the outfits she wore in the movie. The lighting is soft, bright and warm, which shows the audience that this advert is set in a bright summer. The make-up she wears also closely resembles her appearance in the movie. The props and setting closely resemble old Italy, as multiple old vehicles and buildings are shown throughout the ad.

6) The hero, heroine, and antagonist roles are all used within the advert. The hero is the Chauffeur, the heroine is Audrey Hepburn, and the antagonist is the crashed fruit car/the man selling the fruit.

7) It starts in equilibrium as Audrey is on a bus travelling around Italy. The disruption occurs when the fruit car crashes in front of the bus, causing a scene. Finally, a resolution occurs when the Chauffeur appears; Audrey gets out of the bus, steals the bus driver's hat, gives it to the Chauffeur and gets inside of the car.

8) Audrey is represented as the "heroine" with nostalgic connotations as this advert is set in the 1950's.

9) Audrey is represented as a fine young lady while the Chauffeur is presented as a rich, strong gentleman.

10) People would've expected Audrey to sit in the front with the Chauffeur, but she gets in the back instead. This subverts stereotypes as you would think she would want to sit by him and stay protected, but she doesn't. She's playing along with the whole taxi driver/chauffeur thing, implying she's the one that owns/hired a personal chauffeur.

Camerawork blog task

Camera shot 1: Medium Shot This camera shot is used frequently, and it's a shot of a character from head to torso. The characters are watching from some sort of video chat, so this shot being used could indicate crucial information is being put out. Camera shot 2: Two shot This camera shot is also used frequently, and it's shot consists of two characters in one scene. In the clip we see quite a bit of two shots, so this could indicate teamwork between characters. Camera shot 3: Close-up This shot is also used quite frequently; it's of a character visible from head to shoulder. The shot could be used to emphasise the stakes of this scene, considering how close the camera is next to the characters. It could also mean closeness and/or close proximity between the characters, as they are in direct communication with each other. Camera angle: Low angle The camera is almost always at a low angle throughout the clip and it's scenes. It could be used to indicate the power that...

Paper 1 Assessment Learner Response (October)

  1) WWW: Dyari - a strong response for Q7 on Black Widow. You know the CSPs well in this paper. EBI: Not enough media theory/terminology to develop/extend responses. 2a) Typography - Upper case and bold, sans serif font used; connotations of importance and power 2b) Non-verbal codes - lighting signifies brand identity with logo being displayed as lights 2c) Photographic codes - Long shot signifies/shows power of the rugby player and his determination 3) Propp's character theory - Audrey Hepburn is the "heroine", the chauffeur is the "hero", the bus driver is the "donor" and the fruit cart is the "villain". Torodov's equilibrium theory - Equilibrium is first established in the calm, and peaceful town. Disequilibrium is then shown by the fruit cart stalling Audrey Hepburn's bus. A new equilibrium is established once the chauffeur takes Audrey Hepburn on her journey. 4a) Serif font conveys formality and high class 4b) Use of green colou...

Music video: Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor

Audience 1) The target demographic for Arctic Monkeys' music are late teens - early adults who are most likely in the middle class; most of them would also happen to be from western countries. The psychographic group for their music is most likely the Struggler, or any other group that fits an average everyday person. 2) Diversion/distraction from the things around them, as the song is fast-paced and upbeat, and would likely catch their attention and keep them focused on the song. 3)  4) Fans shared their music on P2P websites, allowing a lot more people to hear their music globally. Because a lot more people had listened to their music, this meant that they were a lot more popular than they'd initially thought. 5) They would most likely respond with excitement and/or happiness. Arctic Monkeys wants their fans to enjoy the music video; they most likely aren't in it for the fame/popularity, as before they start the song, the lead singer says "don't believe the hyp...
